ETFL Week 2 Preview: Upsets Brewing as Heavyweights Collide
By Nimrod Jenikovszky
After a Week 1 that felt more like a water polo tournament than a football season opener, the ETFL finally gets a chance to showcase football in more favorable conditions.
The monsoon that dominated opening weekend is gone, but the pressure is already building. Several teams are staring at must-win situations, while others have an opportunity to establish themselves as early championship contenders.
Week 1 belonged to the favorites. Every betting favorite not only won, but covered the spread.
Week 2 feels different.
With multiple teams making their season debuts and several marquee matchups on the schedule, this could be the week the standings begin to take shape.
Let’s get into it.
๐ GAME OF THE WEEK
Team Glavic (-3.5) vs. Team Clarke (+3.5)
Moneyline: Glavic -165 | Clarke +140
Over/Under: 49.5
No game on the Week 2 slate carries more intrigue than Team Glavic versus Team Clarke.
Glavic enters as the league’s hottest team after surviving a grueling Week 1 doubleheader. Despite brutal weather conditions, they posted convincing victories of 25-13 and 15-0, showcasing what may be the most complete roster in the ETFL.
Quarterback Glavic continues to prove why he’s one of the league’s premier signal-callers. Give him even a small window and he’ll make defenses pay. His offense is loaded with playmakers, while a defense allowing just 6.5 points per game has quietly become one of the biggest stories of the young season.
Standing in their way is a Clarke squad that looked every bit like a contender in its season opener. Clarke exploded for 34 points against Team Toi and controlled the game from wire to wire.
Leading the charge was Luca Cairns-Celebre, whose two-touchdown performance immediately thrust him into the early “Mr. TSN” conversation. The Clarke offense looked explosive, efficient, and capable of scoring against anyone in the league.
Oddsmakers have Glavic favored by 3.5 points, but this feels much closer to a pick’em than the line suggests. Expect a playoff-type atmosphere and a game that could come down to the final possession.
Prediction
Team Clarke 31, Team Glavic 26
Pick: Clarke (+3.5) and the outright upset.
Team Toi (+1.5) vs. Team Scoop (-1.5)
Moneyline: Scoop -120 | Toi +100
Over/Under: 46.5
Both teams enter Week 2 looking to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start.
Team Toi showed flashes of offensive firepower despite falling in Week 1. The talent is evident, but consistency remains the biggest question. Defensively, they surrendered too many explosive plays and will need a cleaner performance against a balanced Scoop roster.
Meanwhile, Team Scoop enters motivated after a hard-fought loss to Team Glavic. While the result wasn’t ideal, there were enough positives to suggest this group is capable of making noise moving forward.
Expect plenty of momentum swings and a competitive game between two desperate teams.
Prediction
Team Toi 28, Team Scoop 24
Pick: Toi (+1.5) and the moneyline.
๐จ UPSET OF THE WEEK
Team Heaney (-4.5) vs. Team Jeff (+4.5)
Moneyline: Heaney -190 | Jeff +160
Over/Under: 43.5
This may be the most puzzling line on the entire board.
Team Heaney enters as a significant favorite despite failing to score a single point in Week 1. While Team Glavic’s defense deserves credit, Heaney’s offense left more questions than answers.
Then there’s Team Jeff.
After having their opener postponed due to weather, this will be our first look at a roster loaded with both proven veterans and intriguing newcomers.
One player to watch is Jacob “Twitch” Jenikovszky, who makes his ETFL debut after generating considerable buzz in recent TFONT competition. If Team Jeff’s playmakers can establish chemistry early, this roster has enough talent to surprise people.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, asking Heaney to win by more than four points feels ambitious.
Prediction
Team Jeff 28, Team Heaney 18
Pick: Jeff (+4.5)
Team Heaney (+3.5) vs. Team Pacas (-3.5)
Moneyline: Heaney +140 | Pacas -165
Over/Under: 45.5
This matchup presents one of the weekend’s most interesting scheduling dynamics.
Heaney will be playing its second game of the day and could potentially enter this contest sitting at 0-2. Fatigue, both physically and mentally, becomes a major factor under those circumstances.
Pacas, meanwhile, finally opens its season after weather washed out its Week 1 matchup. With years of experience under center, Pacas consistently demonstrates elite game management, defensive recognition, and the ability to make adjustments on the fly.
The added benefit? He’ll have an opportunity to watch Heaney earlier in the day and identify potential weaknesses.
On paper, Pacas probably deserves to be favored by more than 3.5 points.
But desperation can be a powerful motivator.
If Heaney finds any offensive rhythm in Game 1, momentum could carry over into the afternoon.
Prediction
Team Heaney 31, Team Pacas 28
Pick: Heaney (+3.5)
๐ฃ BLOWOUT SPECIAL
Team Jeff (+6.5) vs. Team Pacas (-6.5)
Moneyline: Jeff +210 | Pacas -260
Over/Under: 47.5
This feels like one of the toughest spots on the entire schedule.
Assuming Pacas drops its opener, they’ll enter this game angry, motivated, and desperate to avoid an 0-2 start. That’s a dangerous combination.
Team Jeff should arrive with confidence after securing its first victory, but emotional highs can be difficult to maintain during a doubleheader.
Pacas’ experience, urgency, and ability to adjust over the course of the day ultimately become the difference.
Prediction
Team Pacas 36, Team Jeff 18
Pick: Pacas (-6.5)
