Week 5 delivered everything the Eastern Touch Football League could ask for: heavyweight battles, offensive fireworks, comeback attempts, doubleheaders played in blistering heat, and another MVP-caliber performance from the league’s hottest player. As the playoff picture continues to take shape, several teams made major statements while others were left searching for answers.

For much of the first half, Team Pacas looked ready to hand Team Glavic its most lopsided defeat of the season. The squad struggled with dropped passes, missed defensive assignments, and looked nothing like the disciplined team that had stormed out to a 4-0 record.
Then came the response.
Showing tremendous resilience, Team Glavic clawed its way back into the game possession by possession. Behind Dylan Hutcheson’s two-touchdown performance, the deficit quickly shrank to one score, setting up a dramatic final drive with an opportunity to complete an improbable comeback.
Standing in their way, however, was the league’s frontrunner for Regular Season MVP.
With Team Glavic driving for the potential game-winning score, Anthony Barrett stepped in front of a Marko Glavic pass, intercepted it, and raced the length of the field for the game-sealing pick-six—his fifth touchdown of the afternoon. It was the perfect ending to one of the most dominant individual performances of the ETFL season.

After surviving their morning showdown with Team Glavic, Team Pacas showed no signs of slowing down.
Although Team Scoop battled early and found the end zone twice in the first half, Pacas controlled the pace from the opening drive. Their defence forced timely turnovers while the offence continued its efficient, balanced attack.
The turning point came at halftime when Team Scoop lost starting quarterback Scoop Mallen. Forced to improvise, the team turned to the league’s cameraman to finish the game under center. While the emergency quarterback managed to keep the offence moving – and avoided embarrassing himself – Team Scoop simply couldn’t generate enough scoring after the break. Meanwhile, Pacas looked every bit like the league’s championship favourite, completing an undefeated weekend and further cementing themselves atop the standings.

If anyone questioned Team Jeff’s offensive ceiling entering Week 5, those doubts disappeared quickly.
Quarterback Jeff Paras orchestrated one of the league’s most explosive offensive performances of the season, spreading the football across the field and allowing his talented receiving corps to showcase its speed. Kearaun Francis led the charge with four touchdowns, while David Smith and Jamall Brown added three more scores between them.
The biggest concern for Team Toi remains unchanged.
Despite once again eclipsing the 20-point mark offensively, defensive struggles continue to overshadow the team’s production. Allowing 45 points makes it difficult to win consistently, regardless of offensive output. If Team Toi hopes to make noise down the stretch, improving on the defensive side of the ball will be priority number one.

Playing their second game of the day while already short-handed, Team Jeff simply ran out of gas.
Team Clarke capitalized from the opening whistle, executing efficiently on both sides of the ball and never allowing Jeff to establish offensive rhythm. Germaine Clarke continues to demonstrate why his offence is one of the most difficult to defend – not because of one superstar, but because everyone is involved.
While Luca Cairns Celebre and Matthew Singh continue to produce eye-popping numbers, Josh Devine and Connor Tamblyn provide additional weapons that force opposing defences to defend every inch of the field. For Team Jeff, the circumstances were far from ideal. Battling extreme temperatures and playing a doubleheader eventually caught up with them.

Just as Team Jeff experienced earlier in the day, Team Clarke found the effects of a doubleheader impossible to ignore.

Joe MacDonald delivered one of the finest performances of Week 5, accounting for four touchdowns while continuing to establish himself as one of the league’s most impactful two-way players. Nathan Fischer added a key defensive sack while contributing offensively with a conversion.
Quietly, Team Heaney has become one of the ETFL’s most dangerous teams. Since their opening week, they’ve consistently averaged around 30 points per game, and their offensive chemistry continues to improve each week.
With the playoffs approaching, don’t be surprised if Team Heaney emerges as the league’s biggest dark horse. Their offence is capable of scoring with anyone, and if their defence continues to improve, they’ll be a difficult matchup for every contender.
